Cocktail author: original Grouchy Bartender’s recipe.

Recently a bottle of bright red aperitif has drawn my eye at the supermarket. It was very reasonably priced, plus I hadn’t seen it before, so my interest was piqued and after quick deliberation I decided to buy one. The bottle in question was Sarti Rosa, a sweet and fruity aperitif with a hint of acidity, that epitomizes the taste of summer. So, I decided to experiment a bit, to see what cocktails I could make with it.

The first cocktail of my Sarti Rosa series is Orange Bite – a simple and easy to make cocktail with reposado tequila base. I love the mellow aged agave flavour of the repo tequila and how it combines with the sweet blood orange and passionfruit notes of Sarti Rosa. It creates a tasty foundation for the cocktail, that just needs a little balancing. Lime juice brings some refreshing tartness and summer liveliness to the cocktail, with a touch of agave syrup providing the final touch of balance. At this point the cocktail, was quite tasty, but still lacking a little bit of depth. The missing ingredient was a few dashes of bitters. In this particular case, orange bitters did the work, giving the drink more complexity and coaxing out some of the more subdued notes.

All in all, Orange Bite, might not be the most sophisticated cocktail I have ever created, but it achieved the goal of creating a bright, refreshing and easily drinkable summer cocktail. Perfect drink to be enjoyed while watching the summer sunset.
