There are a few cocktails bearing the Millionaire name. Last week I have reviewed bourbon-based recipe, which many considers to be the original Millionaire. However, if I would order a Millionaire at the bar I would, without a doubt, order this week’s rum-based cocktail.
Jamaican rum, forms the base of this cocktail with funky banana and dried fruit notes, blended with rich molasses and dark caramel. A higher proof rum like Smith & Cross is recommended as it helps rum to stand up to other flavourful liqueurs and not get lost in the cocktail. A touch of sloe gin further builds on the dried fruit with flavours of raisins, prunes expanding and enriching the cocktail’s complexity. Apricot brandy liqueur brings notes of sweet apricots combined with aged oak of brandy, pairing fantastically well with the base spirit. Finally, some lime juice, balances the cocktail out by introducing some refreshing tartness helping the fruity nature of this cocktail to reveal itself completely.
Jamaican rum-based Millionaire is a cocktail that is simple to remember, make and, of course - drink. A true crowd-pleasing cocktail.
