El Guapo
COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS:
- 30 ml Tequila Blanco
- 30 ml Mezcal
- Half a lime (cut into quarters)
- 3-4 Cucumber Slices
- 22,5 ml Simple Syrup
- 3-5 Dashes of Hot Sauce
GARNISH:
- Cucumber Fan
- Salt and Pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
• Muddle lime in the cocktail shaker to extract juices.
• Add rest of the ingredients.
• Add ice and shake until chilled.
• Pour entire contents of the shaker into a cocktail glass.
• Taste and adjust for balance.
• Garnish with cucumber fan, salt and pepper.

What better way to celebrate the last days of summer, than a delicious smoky and spicy tequila smash. El Guapo suits this purpose perfectly.
Original recipe allows you to choose between tequila or mezcal as the base spirit. I’m a fan of blending spirits in order to achieve further complexity in cocktails, so I decided to split the base in half between blanco tequila and mezcal. Tequila brings vegetal agave notes while mezcal provides the deep bold smokiness. Muddled lime adds citrusy fragrance from the oils and refreshing tartness of the juice. Cucumber slices further build on the crisp freshness of the cocktail, with an almost cooling note, taming the boldness of the spirit. Simple syrup, then brings some balancing sweetness to the mix, letting the individual flavours pop a bit more. Finally, a few dashes of hot sauce, adds delicious spiciness further expanding on the cocktail’s complexity, especially when combined with the cooling qualities of the cucumber and vegetal agave.
