Mezcal Milk Punch



COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS:
- 30 ml Mezcal
- 15 ml Creme de Cacao
- 15 ml Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur
- 30 ml Coconut Milk
GARNISH:
- Chocolate
INSTRUCTIONS:
• Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
• Add ice and shake until chilled.
• Strain into a cocktail glass over large block of fresh ice.
• Garnish with a piece of dark chocolate.

When talking about milk punches, my mind immediately thinks of rum-based punches or clarified type cocktails, but it rarely considers agave spirits in this context. Thus, the idea of Mezcal Milk Punch intrigued me the minute I encountered this recipe. On paper, it seemed a little odd, but the result was truly unique and delicious.
As the name implies, base spirit of the cocktail is Mezcal with its bold earthy, smoky vegetal flavour clearly defining the direction of the cocktail. It is then paired with chile liqueur, bringing spiciness / heat of chilli, as well as notes of cinnamon, cacao and some light subdued herbaceousness. Touch of crème de cacao, expands on the liqueur’s profile and adds some rich deep sweetness to the mix. Last, but not least, coconut milk works like a medium combining the different ingredients together within its decadent creamy texture, ensuring the most pleasurable drinking experience.
In the end, for me, Mezcal Milk Punch is an intriguing and delicious cocktail. It might not play to everyone’s tastes, but I highly recommend trying it at least once.
