Whisky and bourbon often take a little step back during the summer, when light fruity cocktails reign supreme. However, this Bourbon Stone Sour recipe is simply made for the warm summer days. Easy to make, yet full of lightness and refreshing notes, it is a great terrace sipper.
Base of the cocktail is of course bourbon with notes of oak, sweet vanilla and a hint of caramel – a perfect base spirit. Addition of orange juice, is a bit controversial in the cocktail world, but in this summer drink it works quite well. It brings a fresh citrus fruitiness as well as fragrance, but does not jump to the forefront, just lengthens the drink and hangs out in a background letting the bourbon take the centre stage. A touch of fresh lemon juice, provides the tart kick, lacking in the orange, with simple syrup subtly balancing the overall flavour profile.
Bourbon Stone Sour is not the most complex drink ever created, but it is simple to make, and hits the spot when it is scorching hot outside. Great for summer parties and gatherings.
