I know it is not exactly the right time for fresh, fruity summer style cocktails, but today I could not resist. Sometimes, there is simply no better way to bring the feeling of warm sunshine on your face, than to lift a cocktail glass with a delicious, fragrant and refreshing drink.

Base in this particular case is vodka, controversial spirit in the cocktail world, it gives the cocktail a clean and crisp foundation ready to blend with the rest of the ingredients. Elderflower liqueur brings bright floral fragrant dimension which works very well with the sweetness and depth of freshly muddled blackberries, as well as the cooling herbal effect of the mint. (In the original specs mint is only meant as a garnish, but I accidentally added a couple of leaves and decided to just go with the flow and gently muddle those as well. The result was, so good that I decided to include muddled mint in my official specs.) Finally, a touch of simple syrup helps to emphasize the bright fruity nature of this cocktail, with the addition of tart fragrant lemon juice balancing it all out.

All in all, Amelia, at the time of its creation, was meant as an introductory cocktail for Cosmopolitan loving crowds and it achieves this goal effortlessly. Bright, delicious and complex enough for a simple cocktail it is sure to be a hit with broad spectrum of drinkers.
