Cocktail author: Phil Ward.

Sloe Scobeyville Sling is a delicious creation of the famous New York bartender Phil Ward, responsible for countless riffs and modern classics. Recipe appeared in the Death & Co. cocktail book and it immediately caught my eye.

Base of the cocktail is formed by apple brandy, in this particular case Laird’s Straight Apple Brandy Bottled in Bond at 50% abv. bringing sweet notes of apples and aged character of oak, along with a higher proof making sure the base spirit is prominent in this highball. Apple brandy is then paired with the sweet fruitiness of sloe gin adding an extra layer of complexity. Lemon juice, brightens the cocktail up with the peppy tartness, while simple syrup reestablishes the balance. Soda water lengthens the drink with refreshing effervescence, taming the sweet and sour flavours. Finally, a couple of dashes of Peychaud’s bitters seasons the cocktail with gentle hints of anise and cherry.

All in all, Sloe Scobeyville Sling is one of the greatest highball drinks for the dark time of the year. Its unique flavour profile will wrap you up in a warm blanket on a cold winter’s evening.
