Bitter Velvet
COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS:
- 20 ml Aged Blended Rum
- 20 ml Amaretto
- 20 ml Coffee Liqueur
- 20 ml Fernet Branca
GARNISH:
- Orange Twist
- Dried Clover Blossom
INSTRUCTIONS:
• Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing glass.
• Add ice and stir for 30-40 sec. or approx. 60 revolutions.
• Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
• Express orange peel over the top.
• Garnish with an orange twist and a dried clover blossom.

Bitter Velvet is a strong and flavourful cocktail masterfully balancing between warming booze filled autumn/winter drink and deliciously bitter summer refreshment. Relatively simple to make, yet full of tasty notes – a great addition to your cocktail repertoire.
Being an equal parts cocktail, it is difficult to pick a cocktail base, especially with such strong flavours involved. The only true spirit of the cocktail is aged blended rum with notes of molasses, dried tropical fruit, caramel and oak. Amaretto adds a touch of sweet, marzipan like nuttiness, while coffee liqueur further builds on with the complexity of aromatics and slightly bitter coffee notes. Last, but not least Fernet Branca lifts the overall flavour complexity with a balancing bitter herbaceousness. To finish it off, squeeze some aromatic orange peel oils over the top and you have yourself one hell of a drink.
Bitter Velvet, as the name suggest, is bitter and remarkably refreshing. Perfect to be enjoyed in front of a roaring winter fire or under a scorching summer sun.
